Figther Bettas
This type of betta can be easily found in paddy fields in south east asia. My first bettas was also fighter types. I caught them from a paddy field in front of my home when I was just about six years old.
Since these bettas, especially the male ones, are vicious to one another these poor fishes have been used by some people who enjoy watching brutal fishes hurting each other.
Fancy Bettas
- Veiltail
I call this the “lamest” kind of fancy bettas. Looking at the way their fins are hanging you may think they are sick bettas. It is also the cheapest and the easiest bettas to care of. - Plakad
With their short fins plakads, or plakats, are the ones with most similar features as wild bettas. - Halfmoon
As the name implies the fins of a halfmoon betta resembles half a circle. - Crowntails
The first crowntail was bred in Indonesia. Their fins resembles crowns / combs. There are many variations of crowntail bettas. Some crowntails have short combs, long ones and also crossed combs. - Double tail
Unlike any other fancy bettas a double tail is unique because its tail is split into two. - Halfsun
A mix between a halfmoon and crowntail. The fins make the body like a halfmoon but has short combs coming from its crowtail genes. - Butterfly
A variation of halfmoon. Butterflies has fins cover more than 180° of their body. In a glance they look like a pretty butterfly.
